Concept

Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD) asked me to develop a TV ad to encourage recycling in Vermont. We wanted to frame recycling within the strong sense of local responsibility and civic pride shared by Vermonters, while reminding the audience that recycling works when we all participate.

We recruited amateur actors in a variety of professions. Because we weren’t working with professional actors, I chose to film them from the waist down. This would allow us to keep the focus on the recycling bin while still highlighting their identity.

My role

I created the concept and wrote the script. I built a custom slider rig to track along with the actors’ movements, and I filmed, edited, and produced the video.

Vermonters are a rare breed. We’re known for being…a little bit different. But we take pride in the things we do together. Like recycling. Last year in Chittenden County, we kept 80 million pounds of resources out of the landfill. There are lots of things that make Vermont a special place. Recycling is just one of them. Recycling. It’s what we do here. Learn more from the Chittenden Solid Waste District at cswd.net.
